West Coast ModernismTHE POETICS OF WEST COAST MODERNISM IN WEST VANCOUVER, catalogue accompanying three exhibitions on architecture at West Vancouver’s Ferry Building in the Fall of 2005. This compact book provides a fascinating glimpse into the thinking behind the architecture of 18 private residences and a synagogue built in West Vancouver since the 1960s. Looking Forward, Glancing BackLOOKING FORWARD, GLANCING BACK: NORTHWEST DESIGNER CRAFTSMEN AT 50 was published in conjunction with the 2004 exhibit at the Whatcom Museum of History and Art in Bellingham. The catalogue celebrates the 50th anniversary of a five-state craft organization, the Northwest Designer Craftsmen. It showcases more than 130 colour images of jewellery, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, basketry, glass pieces and other unique and expressive art objects.

The Orchid PavilionTHE ORCHID PAVILION GATHERING: CHINESE PAINTING FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN MUSEUM OF ART by Marshall P.S. Wu is a set of two scholarly tomes describing the museum’s collection of Chinese paintings since 1930. In the first volume (404 pages), Marshall Wu, Senior Curator of Asian Art, discusses and visually demonstrates how Chinese painting is a complex mix of Chinese history, literature, philosophy and religion. The second volume (192 pages) contains a chronology of dynasties and emperors and a list of works in the collection.

John KoernerA BRUSH WITH LIFE: John Koerner, with an introduction by David Watmough.
