KYOZON Catalogue for the December 2001 exhibit that focused on artwork by eight contemporary Japanese artists. Thirty-two colour pages illustrate eclectic and globally-centered works that often contain incongruous cross-cultural paradoxes. The show examined issues of cultural "authenticity" and the fusion of both traditional and new Japanese art with contemporary Western art materials and concepts. An essay by Yoichi Kimura describes the history and trends of contemporary Japanese art in the latter half of the 20th Century.

BRIAN JUNGEN Foreword by outgoing director and curator Keith Wallace with articles by Scott Watson and Lindsay Brown. This mainly-text catalogue includes a biography of Vancouver artist Brian Jungen, a critical analysis of his work, and descriptions of his background and inspirations. A conceptual artist, Jungen has brought a Pop sensibility to his transformation of everyday commodities into artworks created within the context of his First Nation's status.

STUFF OF DREAMS (MATIÈRES DE RÊVES) Essays by Penelope Hunter-Stiebel and Odile Nouvel-Kammerer. This luscious hardcover coffee-table book provides an inside peek at the 200,000 objects in the collection of the Paris Musée des Arts Décoratifs (located in a wing of the Louvre). Over one hundred of the elaborate, slightly surrealistic and sensuous objects will be displayed at the Portland Art Gallery during 2002. The works represent eight centuries of French craftsmanship in furniture, jewellery, sculpture, ceramics and glass.

ARNI HARALDSSON: FIRMINY Published by the Contemporary Art Gallery in conjunction with the 2001 show, with a foreword by new CAG director Christina Ritchie. This mainly-text book with eight colour pages discusses the work of Arni Haraldsson with the focal point on Unite, Le Corbusier's 1967 social housing complex in Firminy, France which lingers today in a state of decay and neglect, the object of political and economic debate.

THE UNCANNY: EXPERIMENTS IN CYBORG CULTURE Edited by Bruce Grenville, curator of the Vancouver Art Gallery's 2002 exhibit. This lavish book features the complete text of Donna Harraway's now-classic Manifesto for Cyborgs as well as Sigmund Freud's 1918 essay, "The Uncanny"; an excerpt from William Gibson's 1981 novel Neuromancer; and sample photos from Eadweard Muybridge's 1887 Studies of Locomotion among many other black-and-white images. 32 pages are in full colour.
