Gordon Smith: Gordon Smiths North Shore
Artists For Kids
For the past ten years, Gordon Smith, a prominent senior painter in British Columbia, has energetically guided the growth of The Artists for Kids Trust. This unique program brings artists into classrooms in North Vancouver and provides master classes and programs for children ages 8-18. Four annual endowed scholarships encourage secondary students to pursue a career in the fine arts. During this time, Smith has chronicled North Shore themes from beaches to rainforests in his own inimitable fluent style. This exhibition of more than 40 paintings, drawings and prints from large-scale to intimate has been culled from his personal collection and represent some of his finest work to date. Through them visitors can witness the explosion of each dramatic season of nature along the Pacific coast. Smith is now 81 and as enthusiastic as ever about the education of children in the visual arts. Twenty-eight Canadian artists have been inspired to participate in the program by donating prints of their artwork for fundraising. During this exhibition, a new silkscreen print and an etching by Smith also will be released.
