Moving Ideas: A Contemporary Cultural Dialogue with India”

various venues
January 19 – March 31, 2002

S.L. Mastiholi, Pin-up (1), (1968), poster [Presentation House Gallery, North Vancouver, Feb 16-Mar 31]
Over the past decade, a powerful shift has occurred in both the form and content of representations of contemporary Indian culture. “Moving Ideas” is an extensive presentation of artwork, film, documentation and debate about conditions of life in modern India.

The four exhibits that comprise “Secular Practice” each feature the current work of individual Indian artists who are addressing a multitude of issues. Through divergent media, the artists tackle such cultural themes as freedom of expression, religious fundamentalism, sexuality, women’s rights and the immovability of the caste system.
