Klapstocks images examine everyday spaces that are marginally inhabited, often glimpsed through a keyhole in a wooden fence or down an alley. Since 1998, she has focused on the laneways around her downtown Toronto neighbourhood. In liminal, the artists first solo exhibition in her hometown, many of the photographs depict abandoned sofas and armchairs. They explore relationships between figures and spaces, both public and private, using herself as the model.
Klapstock will give an artists talk on Sunday, Apr 9 at 1 pm. The catalogue accompanying the exhibition is a collaboration between the Kamloops Art Gallery, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, and Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery.
